About The Urban Ambassadors
The Urban Ambassadors is an enrichment program initiative facilitated by Hip Hop 4 Life, in partnership with the New York City Department of Education. The Urban Ambassadors seeks to expand upon the innate socio-emotional and academic capacity of inner-city young men. Each year a cohort of students are recruited, selected and enrolled in a year round program that encompassed academic enrichment, experiential outings, college tours, socio-emotional, character and leadership skill-building, gender-based bonding and positive adult role-modeling/mentoring.
In The Urban Ambassadors, we cultivate a brotherhood and support network that serves our students at many different intersections, both cognitive and non-cognitive. The young men have created a culture where going to college is highly valued, but just as important is the quality of leadership learned and practiced. Travis Gayle, member of the inaugural Cohort, speaks on his brothers: “We all have different qualities but at the end of the day we all want to do the same things which are lead, make an impact and give back to others.” We know these young men have many gifts to give the world, soon you will know too.
